**Please note that, due to a contractor operative experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, work on the resurfacing of the path surrounding the lake at Hailsham Country Park has been delayed as a result of other members of the team self-isolating. It is expected that the work will be now completed by Friday 15th May.
Lakeside entrances to the Country Park will be closed until then. In the meantime however, the public can enter the park via Holyhead Close. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.**
Hailsham’s parks and public open spaces remain open during the Coronavirus outbreak until further notice, but residents are urged to adhere to the social distancing rules imposed by government agencies.
Public open spaces such as Hailsham Country Park, the Common Pond, Western Road Recreation Ground and Maurice Thornton Playing Field will remain open to the public, although residents MUST heed government advice relating to social distancing.
“The pleasant weather has seen many people going outdoors over the last week, some not following government advice and the recommended guidance for keeping 2 metres apart,” said Town Clerk John Harrison.
“Whilst our public open spaces will remain open for the time being, we ask people that are using them to respect the health and safety of others at all times, following the relevant government guidance on social distancing.”
The Town Council will keep this decision under review and will update the public if there are any further changes.
Town Mayor Councillor Paul Holbrook commented: “Advising the public on social distancing and other measures is vital if we are to help combat the spread of the Coronavirus. It’s imperative that we take the health of the local community into consideration during this difficult time.”
“We’re advising residents to stay at home and follow government advice, but, at the same time, we understand that it is important to get some much-needed outdoor time.”
“If people choose to visit parks, recreation grounds and other open spaces, they should do this responsibly and follow the social distancing rule.
