Shoppers Aplenty at Hailsham Summer Market Event

Council News & Services

Hailsham Summer Market 2018

Crowds of shoppers attended Hailsham’s Summer Market in the town centre on Saturday [28 July], an event organised by Hailsham Town Council with the support of Hailsham Forward.

Vicarage Field was home to a range of street market stalls selling locally sourced food, as well as gifts and accessories, and there was a variety of live music throughout the day including performances from El Banda Burros and the Peter Willson Jazz Quartet.

The Kings Head in South Road (Harvey’s of Lewes) attended providing a beer tent and selling wines, and the event also featured Hailsham FM broadcasting live, free face painting for children courtesy of Christchurch, and Hailsham Parish Church held their open church.

Councillor Alexa Clarke, Chairman of the Town Council’s Communities Committee said: “The Summer Market resulted in a busy Hailsham town centre on Saturday and I’m delighted all our events organised by the Town Council and supported by Hailsham Forward are always well attended and appeal to people of all ages.”

“Our committee has worked hard in recent months to make the necessary preparations for the Celebrate Hailsham Day and Summer Market events and is grateful to everyone who has supported us from the outset.”

Deputy Town Clerk and Business Enterprise Manager Mickey Caira said: “The enthusiasm of not only shoppers, but local producers and traders, has helped establish our markets as some of the most popular in the south east region.”

“The Hailsham Street Market and its associated special events such as last Saturday’s Summer Market clearly add to the vitality of Hailsham as a market town and more and more of us are realising the importance of supporting our local producers and traders by purchasing items there.”

The Town Council has already started organising this year’s Hailsham Christmas Market which will take place in the High Street and Vicarage Field on Saturday 15th December. Further details of this event will be announced later this year.
