Proposed south Hailsham housing developments, vehicle parking in Western Road and directional signage for the public toilets in North Street were among the items raised at the Town Council’s Annual Town Meeting held at the Hailsham Pavilion on Wednesday evening [18 March], at which over 60 residents attended.
The event included a presentation and review of the past year by the current Town Mayor and Chairman, Councillor Jo Bentley. Representatives from Sussex Police, NHS Eastbourne, Hailsham & Seaford CCG, Wealden District Council and the Movement & Access for Hailsham & Hellingly (MASHH) group provided information and answered questions from residents about their services before the formal meeting.
Town councillors responded to a number of issues raised by Hailsham residents at the meeting including the installation of additional dog hygiene bins in Hailsham, the cutting of grass verges and abandoned supermarket shopping trolleys in the town centre.
Town Mayor Councillor Jo Bentley said:“One of the highlights of the civic year is the Annual Town Meeting which is an opportunity to report on the year to electors of Hailsham. I’m grateful to the many residents who took time to come along, hear our presentations and have their concerns addressed.”
Town Clerk John Harrison said:“In summary of the past year, there have been some challenging times to which the Town Council has responded with a positive outlook, hard work and commitment from members and staff.
The Annual Town Meeting enabled us to inform residents of our achievements and provided an opportunity for people to participate in discussion on town issues and local services.”
The Town Council will next be holding its Annual General Meeting which takes place at the Town Council Offices in Market Street on Wednesday 20th May from 7.30pm. Members of the public are cordially invited to attend and witness the election of the Town Mayor and Chairman for the coming year (2015-2016).
