Hailsham Town Council’s play areas and outdoor gyms have reopened, in line with the relaxation of coronavirus restrictions.
Play areas maintained by the Town Council have been closed since the coronavirus pandemic lockdown began in late March and, as part of the easing of restrictions, have now reopened to the public.
All maintained play areas – those located at Western Road, Battle Road, Stroma Gardens, Quinnell Drive and on the Maurice Thornton playing field – are accessible once again, in addition to the outdoor gym equipment on the Western Road Recreation Ground and Maurice Thornton playing field site.
Signs stating that the facilities are closed have been removed and replaced with new signs reminding users of social distancing requirements and providing guidance relating to hygiene. Anyone visiting a play area or outdoor gym should follow all guidelines listed on the signs.
Children and families must follow current social distancing guidelines and if any play area or outdoor gym appears busy, they should return at a later time. Adults and children are asked to wash their hands thoroughly before and after use of the play facilities and to take their own hand sanitiser wherever possible.
Furthermore, anyone displaying symptoms of COVID-19 must not visit a play area or outdoor gym.
“Closing Hailsham’s play areas in March was vital in order to help combat the spread of the Coronavirus,” said Town Mayor Councillor Paul Holbrook. It’s imperative that we take the health of the local community into consideration during the pandemic, even after the easing of restrictions.”
“The Town Council, in line with government advice, is pleased to have reopened its play areas and outdoor gym equipment. Nevertheless, we ask people that are using them to respect the health and safety of others at all times, follow the relevant government guidance on social distancing and maintain optimum hand hygiene at all times.”
