Preparations by the Town Council’s Festivities & Events team are under way for market events for all the family in Hailsham town centre this summer.

Plans for two specialist community markets are in the initial stages and many of the details have yet to be confirmed, although the line-up of events will include a Children’s Market and a Summer Market, both taking place in Vicarage Field.

Hailsham Children’s Market will take place in Vicarage Field on Saturday 25th June with items of interest to children including toys, crafts and confectionery, as well as the usual market stalls selling a wide range of locally sourced food, gifts and accessories.

There will be various activities on the day including face painting, balloon modelling and games for children.

Hailsham town centre will take on a distinctly continental flavour on Saturday 30th July when Italia in Piazza will join other food and drink traders at the Hailsham Summer Market event, taking place in Vicarage Field on Saturday 30th July. The market will feature cheeses, meats, pastries, fruit, vegetables and speciality foods.

Full details, including times, scheduled entertainment acts and other activities organised for both events, will be announced in the near future.

Deputy Town Mayor and Chairman of the Town Council’s Communities Committee Councillor Amanda O’ Rawe said: “Summer 2016 will be an exciting time for Hailsham and I’m delighted to be part of organising the festivities scheduled.”

“These two specialist markets will bring energy and atmosphere to the town and our aim is to work with Hailsham Forward and other partner organisations to create events which benefit the residents of Hailsham, whilst supporting local traders.”

“Whilst only some of the arrangements are in place, we are confident that the summer specialist markets will be well received by the public and offer fun for the whole family.”

Councillor Chriss Triandafyllou, Vice-Chairman of the Communities Committee said: “Providing special themed markets to compliment the regular Hailsham Street Market is very important for the town. We hope to attract a lot of people at both events and give them another opportunity to pick up some one-off finds and excellent products, supporting our business community in all the wonderful things being done locally.”
