New Year Message from the Mayor of Hailsham

— Uncategorised

“I hope everyone had an enjoyable Christmas break with their family, friends and loved ones.

In the run up to Christmas, the Deputy Mayor Councillor Amanda O’Rawe and I have participated in a range of seasonal events and would like to thank all those who provided us with such magnificent hospitality at festive concerts, carol services and more throughout the month of December.

I am looking forward to the remainder of my current term of office as Town Mayor and feel honoured and privileged to represent the people of Hailsham. I look forward to getting out and about and meeting you all at future mayoral engagements and community events, and will continue to visit as many places and people as possible to raise the profile of local charities and voluntary organisations.

All manner of good things happen in Hailsham, and as I wrote in the local press earlier this year, this town never seems to stand still. There is always something for people of all ages to do; societies to explore and maybe join, and events to enjoy at any time of the year.

Speaking of events, you can always find out what’s coming up in the months ahead by checking out the Town Council notice-boards, Facebook page or indeed the Community Events Calendar accessible via our website.

When you spot something interesting, why not contact the organisers to ask if they’d need some volunteer helpers?  You’d be sure of a welcome, and what’s more, you’d find yourself among like-minded people who may well become friends.

I would also like to take this opportunity to remind people about the Hailsham Hero Community Award, of which I will be delighted to present to the very worthy recipient at our Annual Town Meeting on Wednesday 25th April 2018.

The award is to celebrate those people working tirelessly amongst us, in recognition of outstanding service to the people of Hailsham. Do you know of anyone who fits the bill? If you do, please come forward with nominations by downloading a form via the Town Council website or visit our reception in Market Street to collect a form.

With much to accomplish in 2018, I look forward to returning to work and connecting with residents, businesses, community groups and stakeholders on how we can all continue to build a better Hailsham, together.

On behalf of the Deputy Town Mayor Councillor Amanda O’Rawe and I, may we wish you all a very happy, healthy and peaceful New Year. Whatever your hopes and aspirations may be, go forward with confidence and determination and you will, I believe, be rewarded by your own efforts in 2018.”
