Young people in Hailsham have been practicing their pool skills after the Square Youth Café was able to purchase a new pool table with money donated by Hailsham Lions Club earlier this year.
An award of £500 was presented to the Square Youth Café – Hailsham Town Council’s flagship youth facility — in May, after a request by youth workers for financial assistance on behalf of young people in the town.
The funding has been used to replace the Square Youth Café’s pool table, which has deteriorated from constant use since the opening of the centre in 2000.
Youth project coordinator at the Square Youth Café Andy Joyes said, “We are delighted to have received funding from Hailsham Lions Club and extremely grateful to them for generously supporting our important youth projects and activities.”
“The new pool table is a great addition to the centre and has already proved very popular with the young people who attend here.”
“Funding for the Square Youth Café is always needed in order to keep services running and to make sure that everyone gets the chance to use them. The young people who attend The Square will benefit considerably from this donation.”
Hailsham Lions Club president Geraldine Gurr, who visited the Square Youth Café on Wednesday said: “We’ve always been impressed by the high level of community service carried out by the staff at the Square Youth Café and it’s great to see the young people enjoying playing on the new pool table.”
“Hailsham Lions are delighted to be able to help the Square continue its great work by way of this donation. We are supportive of local youth services in general and look forward to helping out where we can in the future.”
Hailsham Lions has recently opened a shop situated in Market Street (next to Stable Doors Indoor Market), which sells used books, DVDs, games, toys and more, all at bargain prices and proceeds of which will help fund their important community projects. The shop is open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10am-4pm.
