“I hope everyone had an enjoyable Christmas break with their family, friends and loved ones.
The closing days of the year always bring the opportunity for retrospection and for looking ahead to a new year. Hailsham Town Council has spent 2016 busily working away for the good of the town and its residents, and 2017 will be no different.
During the past year we did made great strides in our efforts to develop a Neighbourhood Plan for Hailsham. In doing so, our Neighbourhood Planning Team, consisting of councillors and residents, have considered what sort of homes should be provided in the area in future and the level of infrastructure required to support both new development and the existing community.
We as a Town Council have a duty to build strong and positive links with the local community and stakeholders and the Neighbourhood Planning Team will continue to engage with its residents and businesses on all levels into 2017 and believes in a strong focus on public consultation.
There are many other things to look forward to in the next year! Work on a major project to improve the town centre, which includes road layout changes and additional loading bays to name but a few things is due to be completed in the near future, helping to make everything overall more pedestrian friendly and help to improve traffic flow.
In my capacity as Mayor I will continue to visit as many places and people as possible to raise the profile of local charities and voluntary organisations in Hailsham, all of whom work tirelessly to help others and make individuals lives just that much better and brighter. I am sure that the people of our town will continue to join together and support those most in need during 2017.
I would also like to take this opportunity to remind people about the Hailsham Hero Community Award, of which I will be delighted to present to the very worthy recipient at our Annual Town Meeting on 20th April 2017.
The award is to celebrate those people working tirelessly amongst us, in recognition of outstanding service to the people of Hailsham, or perhaps a person who has committed a single act of bravery, heroism or selflessness in the past twelve months. Do you know of anyone who fits the bill?
Please come forward with nominations by downloading a form via the Town Council website or visit our reception in Market Street.
It has been and continues to be a privilege for me to serve as Town Mayor and Chairman. I would like to thank the people of Hailsham for the opportunity to represent them, and my colleagues at the Town Council for all their administrative and other support throughout.
With much to accomplish in 2017, I look forward to returning to work and connecting with residents, Council staff, businesses and stakeholders on how we can all build a better Hailsham, together.
On behalf of my wife, the Mayoress Sandra Coltman and I, Happy New Year: may it be healthy and prosperous for you all.”
