The Mayor of Hailsham, Councillor Paul Holbrook, will be hosting a Reception for invited guests on Saturday 8th October, before attending the performance of String – The Musical at the Hailsham Pavilion Theatre in George Street.

String – The Musical is a brand new, specially commissioned musical set in Hailsham and the surrounding area and is probably the most ambitious project the Hailsham Festival team has undertaken in its 15-year history.

It stars well known TV and theatre actor John Bowler as the narrator, who has appeared in many notable theatre productions including A Patriot for Me at the RSC, and the critically acclaimed Popcorn UK Tour. John’s numerous television credits include DCI Banks, WPC56, Casualty, and a long running character in The Bill.

String – The Musical has a creative team that includes one of Britain’s leading writers and lyricists and a popular and successful composer.

The show runs on 7th and 8th October at 7.30pm, with a Saturday matinee at 3pm. Tickets cost £10 per person and are available via the Hailsham Pavilion box office on 01323 841414 or via https://hailshamfestival.co.uk/event/string/.

“Hailsham and the surrounding area has such amazingly rich groups of performers and acting talent, and it is an honour for me to be attending a performance of String – The Musical and hosting a reception for invited guests beforehand,” said Town Mayor Cllr Paul Holbrook. “I am very grateful to the Hailsham Festival team for organising what is guaranteed to be an amazing show and I look forward to an evening of entertainment for us all on 8th October. I hope as many people as possible book their tickets for one of the scheduled shows in October!”

Cllr Holbrook added: “On behalf of the Town Council, I’d like to thank everyone concerned for all the hard work put into organising this year’s festival. A vast amount of work is carried out behind the scenes by dedicated volunteers to help ensure its success.”

String – The Musical writer Stephen Plaice said: “Hailsham has been making rope for over two hundred years, and Marlow, a leading ropemaker, is still located in the town.  String takes the intertwining ropemaking process as its central theme. It binds together different strands of time into a central love story that runs through one Hailsham woman’s life.”

“A blend of music from the First World War, mixed in with Sixties’ pop and contemporary love songs, makes String highly suitable for young and old audiences alike.”

A local Hailsham resident, Tony Biggin, has worked with Stephen to compose the music for this production. His compositions have been played by the London Philharmonic and other orchestras in many prestigious venues, and he has composed work for television, radio, the theatre and concert halls.
