Local Produce Cooking Demonstrations at Next Farmers Market

Community, Shopping & Retail

Hailsham Farmers Market

Hailsham Town Council is encouraging people to stop by and shop at the next local Farmers’ Market, which takes place in Market Street on Saturday 8th September.

The Town Council is sponsoring Sussex resident and former BBC Masterchef champion Peter Bayless, who will be displaying his culinary skills and providing exciting cookery demonstrations using seasonal produce – with plenty of free tasters!

“I always try to source local produce whenever I am cooking. It makes so much difference in terms of taste and value,” said Mr Bayless. “Our local Wealden markets provide a particularly good source of the freshest ingredients and seasonal vegetables.”

Deputy Town Clerk & Business Enterprise Manager Mickey Caira said: “The Town Council is proud to be sponsoring the services of Mr Bayless at the next Farmers’ Market and we’d like to extend our thanks to local producers for all their hard work and dedication over the years. Their enthusiasm has helped to establish Hailsham Farmers’ Market as a popular destination in the southeast region.”

Hailsham Farmers’ Market, which takes place at the Cattle Market site in Market Street on the second Saturday of every month from 9am to 12.30pm offers shoppers fresh meat, fruit and vegetables, dairy products, honey, bread, cakes, eggs, jams, pickles, pies, as well as bespoke craft items.

With free, easy parking and their own Market Cafe, the market is just a 5-minute walk away from the town centre.

Town and district councillor Nick Collinson said: “The concept of Farmers’ Markets nationally is to help farming and to promote locally sourced food and crafts to the local population.”

“Hailsham Farmers’ Market, based in the only active livestock market in Sussex, is no exception. They will be celebrating its twentieth anniversary this December and are living proof that Farmers’ Markets are a vital link between the farmer and the consumer.”

“There is something truly amazing about our local farmers’ market. The traders have worked hard to build their business and a thriving market community.”
