An activity scheme aimed at providing young people in Hailsham with organised outings on Friday evenings has received yet another cash boost, this time a £220 donation from Waitrose via its ‘Community Matters’ scheme.
The award cheque was presented to youth workers last week and will be used to subsidise a group of young people taking part in various activities this summer, as part of the Friday Night Project.
“It is a great achievement that the Town Council’s youth project staff, Safer Wealden Partnership, Targeted Youth Support and other partner agencies have come together to give young people an opportunity to engage in really exciting recreational activities,” said Hailsham Town Mayor Councillor Nigel Coltman.
“I’m delighted to hear that Waitrose has helped Friday Night Project partners to continue their great work by way of this generous donation. They have supported our local youth services in the past and we are very grateful for this.”
Andy Joyes, Youth Project Coordinator at Hailsham Town Council said, “We are pleased to receive this cheque from Waitrose and extremely grateful to them for generously supporting our important youth projects and activities.”
“Funding for our various youth projects is always needed in order to keep services running and to make sure that everyone gets the chance to use them. The young people who take part in Friday Night Project activities will benefit considerably from this donation.”
A variety of fun activities for young people have been planned for the Friday Night Project in the coming months including windsurfing and sailing at Spray Water Sports Centre and ten-pin bowling at Freedom Leisure, as well as kayaking, Segway and roller-skating.
There will also be the chance for young people to participate in go-karting, Laser Quest, wave-running and giant pillows at Knockhatch Adventure Park.
All young people in Hailsham aged 12 to 17 are welcome to attend outings organised for the Friday Night Project. Further details, including bookings and programmes/activity schedules can be obtained by contacting Andy Joyes on 01323 841702 or by email: andy.joyes@hailsham-tc.gov.uk
