People living or working in Hailsham are being invited to attend the next Hailsham Residents’ Forum, which takes place next month.

The aim of the meeting, which is being held at the Civic Community Hall in Vicarage Lane at 7pm on Friday 16th October, is to build a forum for residents to ask questions on topical local issues that are raised by, or affect, members of the community.

The October forum will be open to all members of the public and attended by forum organisers Hailsham Forward — the Town Team which aims to bring together key local stakeholders including Hailsham Town Council to review the best ways to revitalise the town.

The inaugural meeting held in July was attended by nearly 70 residents and discussion took place about housing developments in Hailsham, with concerns raised over the provision of schools and doctors surgeries, local employment opportunities, town centre traffic congestion and other infrastructure issues.

The topic selected by the public for the October forum relates to the forthcoming town centre traffic and road improvements, although questions on the town centre generally are welcomed.

If you wish to attend the meeting please write to Mickey Caira (Town Council Offices, Market Street, Hailsham, BN27 2AE) or email (

If you will be attending and have a question for the forum, please include your question in all correspondence, so the relevant information can be gathered and made available at the meeting.

Hailsham Forward Executive Chairman Rob Slater, who will lead the forum commented: “We know that there are some big issues that really concern local residents and I look forward to meeting many more of them at this forthcoming forum.”

“I really hope that local people will take the time to come to the meeting. We need to know the views and opinions of the community on what matters to them and on ways to further improve our town.”

Town and district Councillor Nick Collinson, who is Vice-Chairman of the Hailsham Forward Executive said: “The first forum meeting held in July allowed residents to comment on the recent housing developments including those in north Hailsham and east of Battle Road, and planning officers were on hand to answer any questions and bring us all up to date on future developments in the town.”

“Input from residents and community members is very important to us and we welcome additional questions to debate at the October forum. Please do come and have your say.”
