Hailsham’s town centre post office has recently returned to near-normal operating hours, including Saturdays.

The post office, run by the Town Council and located at 10 High Street has remained open in recent months and throughout the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, as an essential service to the local community.

The post office is currently open from 8.30am-5.30pm Monday to Friday and is once again open on Saturdays from 9am-2pm.

Physical distancing guidelines and other protocols are in place at the post office, in keeping with current Government recommendations. Members of the public must wear a face mask or other face covering when entering the post office building.

Currently, there will be a maximum of two counters/serving positions provided at any one time.

Post office manager Christine Holverson said: “I’m happy that the post office continues to provide an essential service for the local community during this very challenging time. Unfortunately, I was unable to serve at the post office myself during the peak of the pandemic for health reasons. Nevertheless, I’m glad to be back and once again enjoy serving our customers again!”

“This is a very challenging time for us all,” said Town Clerk and Postmaster, John Harrison. “We have to balance the need for the public’s access to many services and properties, but at the same time, promote public safety by following the strict hygiene and social distancing regulations currently in place.”

“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the public for their understanding of these necessary precautions as we take every step possible to ensure their well-being and safety – and that of our members and staff.”

The town centre post office received further positive feedback from residents during the height of the pandemic, with members of the public praising staff for their customer service and the post office’s willingness to remain open in recent months, offering a valuable service to the community.

“Despite the current situation we find ourselves in, the staff are friendly and helpful. They are happy to provide the service and info we need. They are handling the social distancing well and not really letting it effect what they are doing.”

“Staff are doing their best under difficult circumstances.  Always helpful polite and friendly.”

“Staff are always very friendly and helpful.”

“The staff are pleasant, helpful and friendly…. and are a very valued part of our community.”
