Hailsham Town Council is delighted to announce that the Hailsham Neighbourhood Plan has been shortlisted in the Neighbourhood Planning Category at the upcoming Planning Awards.

The Planning Awards 2018, which are organised by Planning Magazine, recognise excellence in planning work and placemaking, as well as associated fields such as stakeholder engagement in local neighbourhood plans.

Troy Planning & Design has been working with Hailsham Town Council over the past two years to help develop a Plan that seeks to ensure that new growth is of the highest quality, strengthening and enhancing the quality of the town centre. It promotes the concept of the ‘ten-minute town’, making walking and cycling more attractive propositions, and where access is improved for all, to all uses and activities.

The award winners will be announced at a ceremony in June, to be held at The Savoy Hotel in London.

Delighted to hear of the news, Neighbourhood Planning Committee Chairman Councillor Glenn Moore said: “This is without a doubt the icing on the cake for all the hard work undertaken by the councillors, officers and other stakeholders involved in the development of the Hailsham Neighbourhood Plan from the outset.”

“Thanks must also be extended to the many residents who have provided feedback in terms of important infrastructure requirements and issues to support future housing growth in Hailsham, and who have responded to comments made during our various public consultation and engagement events.”

Town Clerk John Harrison commented: “The fact that Hailsham’s Neighbourhood Plan has been shortlisted for this prestigious award highlights how the neighbourhood planning sector plays a major part in this new evolutionary form of community design, infrastructure fulfilment and place making.”

“The Hailsham Neighbourhood Plan has been informed by and responds to extensive consultation and engagement with residents and is being produced for the benefit of local people, having given them real opportunities to help influence the way in which Hailsham is developed in the future.”

Troy Planning & Design director Jon Herbert said: “The shortlisting in this award reflects the hard work undertaken by the community and the efforts made to explore new approaches to consultation, using visual preference surveys to guide the evolution of policies, particularly around design and built form.”

“The town is likely to experience significant pressures from new growth in the future and the Neighbourhood Plan puts in place very locally specific policies that will influence improvements to quality of place for the benefit and enjoyment of all.”

“The Town Council has embraced ideas around placemaking, development and high quality, energy efficient design, to help drive a sustainable and inclusive future for Hailsham. Troy Planning & Design is delighted to support the Town Council on production of the Plan.”
