The Mayor of Hailsham is to attend a charity tennis match and open day this weekend at Hailsham Lawn Tennis Club and members of the public are invited to attend, support, play or donate on the day.

Head coach Sean Yates and SKiL (Springing Kids into Life) Director Richard Harrison will play a 12-hour tennis match this Sunday [5 July] from 7am to 7pm at the club courts in Western Road, joined by fundraising doubles partners of all ages and abilities (playing on court for around an hour each).

The aim is to raise funds for St Wilfrid’s Hospice, a local charity providing skilled and compassionate care and treatment for people living with a life limiting illness.

Town Mayor Councillor Nigel Coltman, delighted to be attending the event, encourages people to go along and offer their support. He said:

“I hope lots of people will take part by sponsoring Sean and Richard and helping St Wilfrid’s Hospice continue funding first-class hospice-at-home and nursing home respite care.

In order to play non-stop for 12 hours they need people to play against, and also to donate money for the cause. So, whether you’re a novice or an experienced player, old or young, a club member or non-member, your involvement on Sunday would be greatly welcomed!”

Richard Harrison, who is one of the organisers of the Tennis Marathon, explained why the event is so important:

“This is a great opportunity to have a hit through match play with Sean and myself, whilst supporting your local tennis club and a very worthwhile cause.

We are privileged to be able to support St Wilfrid’s Hospice, a charity which makes a big difference to people’s lives but which rely on voluntary donations to deliver their services.

It is also the club’s open day and as it’s the middle weekend of Wimbledon we are hoping lots of people get involved by enjoying a rally, competitive and social players alike.”

For further information about the event or to lend support in any way please contact Richard on 07841 613246 or via richard@skil-cic.co.uk.

Located in the heart of the town, Hailsham Lawn Tennis Club has something to offer all players, from the very beginner to the seasoned adult member or the up-and-coming junior player. Whatever the standard, the club welcomes new members and provides plenty of opportunity for play either during the numerous club sessions or in pre-arranged practice.

A variety of membership packages are available, details of which are available by contacting Harry Marks (Membership Secretary) on 01323 840178.
