A special Christmas Market event organised by Hailsham Town Council in partnership with Hailsham Forward on Saturday [3 December], has been hailed a success by councillors.
The Hailsham Christmas Extravaganza saw the town centre bustling for the start of the traditional festive retail period, with a wide range of stalls selling Christmas gifts, decorations, cards, cakes and other items.
There was a programme of festive entertainment for the family and activities for children throughout the day including a giant snow globe for families to have their photos taken in. Santa & his Sleigh (provided by Hailsham Rotary Club) made an appearance in the High Street to hand out free presents to children.
Deputy Town Mayor and chairman of the Town Council’s Communities Committee, Councillor Amanda O’Rawe, said: “The Christmas Extravaganza was a success all round and we will endeavour to make our festive events even bigger next year.”
“Christmas markets always add to the town centre at this time of year and it was great to be able to work with project partners to provide festive entertainment and activities for children to take part in.”
“All in all, I’m delighted with the support shown, not just from organisers of the event but from the people of Hailsham and the wider community.”
Michelle Hagger, Business Enterprise Assistant at Hailsham Town Council said: “There was a busy flow of shoppers in the town centre on Saturday and local businesses and craftspeople had an interesting selection of stalls. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and it was nice to get into the Christmas spirit.”
