Hailsham Town Council is saddened to report that former town councillor Chriss Triandafyllou has recently passed away.

Councillor Triandafyllou, aged 74, had been admitted to hospital following a fall and it was whilst in hospital receiving treatment that he sadly died from a heart attack.

He was a well-respected and active member of the local community, having been elected onto the Town Council in May 2011 and re-elected for another 4-year term in 2015.

Representing Hailsham South & West Ward, Councillor Triandafyllou served on various committees, including the Town Council’s Finance, Policy, Resources & Staffing and Communities Committees, the former of which he was Chairman for a number of years.

Mr Triandafyllou was also a serving Wealden District Councillor, representing Hailsham South and a member of the Hailsham Forward Executive and Stakeholder Group.

He was instrumental in the campaign to install potentially life-saving public access defibrillators outside key buildings in Hailsham in 2016, and was a key member of the Town Council’s events planning team, helping to organise and oversee important summer and Christmas town events since his election on to the Town Council.

Town Mayor Councillor Paul Holbrook offered his condolences on behalf of Hailsham Town Council: “Chriss was a popular and well-respected town councillor, having served the community for four years and caring passionately about Hailsham and its residents. We are all greatly upset by the news that our friend has passed away.”

“I know I speak for all my colleagues at the Town Council, as well as the wider community, when I say that Chriss will be sorely missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this sad time.”

Town Clerk John Harrison said: “I can only add to the many wonderful messages which have already circulated about Councillor Triandafyllou – this is such a huge loss for everyone who knew him.”

“As a town councillor from 2011 to 2019, he worked tirelessly on behalf of the community that he was proud to represent and contributed significantly to the various Council committees on which he served during his term in office.”
