Hailsham’s town centre post office is currently operating at near-normal operating hours during the coronavirus pandemic.
The post office, run by the Town Council and located at 10 High Street has remained open since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March, as an essential service to the local community.
The post office is currently open from 8.30am-5.30pm Monday to Friday and continues to remain open on Saturdays from 8.30am-2pm.
Physical distancing guidelines and other protocols are in place on the premises, in keeping with current Government recommendations. Members of the public must wear a face mask or other face covering when entering the post office building.
“This is a very challenging time for us all,” said Town Clerk and Postmaster, John Harrison. “We have to balance the need for the public’s access to many services and properties, but at the same time, promote public safety by following the strict hygiene and social distancing regulations currently in place.”
“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the public for their understanding of these necessary precautions as we take every step possible to ensure their well-being and safety – and that of our members and staff.”
A concern among some residents is the forthcoming closure of the Hailsham branch of Barclays Bank. However, residents can rest assured that normal Barclays Bank transactions can be carried out in branch at the High Street post office in Hailsham, including business deposits. The town centre post office has received much positive feedback from residents since the start of the pandemic, with members of the public praising staff for their customer service and the post office’s willingness to remain open since March, offering a valuable service to the community.
“Despite the current situation we find ourselves in, the staff are friendly and helpful. They are happy to provide the service and info we need. They are handling the social distancing well and not really letting it effect what they are doing.”
