Hailsham Christmas Market

Following the success of 2014’s Christmas Market, Hailsham Town Council and project partner Hailsham Forward are in full swing with the planning and organisation of this year’s Christmas town event, which takes place in Vicarage Field and the High Street on Saturday 5th December from 9.30am to 3pm.

The town centre will be home to a number of stalls selling fine food, Christmas gifts, decorations, cards, cakes, jewellery and many other items. Various festive refreshments will be on sale and the event will also feature a mouth-watering hog roast to tempt visitors.

There will also be an open-air skate rink in Vicarage Field which has been a feature at the Christmas Market in recent years and it is expected that it will be a major attraction for children and families again this December.

Councillor Amanda O’Rawe, Chairman of the Town Council’s Communities Committee and Deputy Town Mayor said: “It may only be August but we’re already getting into the Christmas spirit. We had some really encouraging feedback from both shoppers and stallholders last year and we’re looking forward to doing it all again this December and making the event an even bigger success.”

“We’re also excited to be building on the programme of festive entertainment and looking forward to welcoming stallholders who can help us continue to make Christmas in Hailsham really magical.”

Prior to the Christmas Market, a special Christmas lights switch-on event, which is always a highlight of the year in Hailsham, will take place in Vicarage Field on Saturday 21st November.

Hailsham entertainer and Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist Peter Lambert will press the button to turn on the town’s Christmas lights in Vicarage Field at 5.30pm and entertainment will be provided including carol singing performances from local school pupils.

Encouraging people to attend the switch-on event Town Mayor Councillor Nigel Coltman said: “The Christmas lights switch-on is always one of the highlights of the year in the town centre and indicates that festivities are underway, bringing beautiful light to an often bleak winter scenery.”

“I hope many people decide to attend the event, enjoy the entertainment on offer and get in the festive spirit with their friends and family.”
