Countdown to Hailsham’s Christmas Events

Hailsham Christmas Market

Following the success of last year’s Christmas Market, Hailsham Town Council and project partner Hailsham Forward are in full swing with the planning and organisation of this year’s Christmas Extravaganza event, which takes place in the town centre on Saturday 3rd December from 9am to 4pm.

Vicarage Field and the High Street will be home to a number of stalls selling fine food, Christmas gifts, decorations, cards, cakes, jewellery and many other items. Various festive refreshments will be on sale including a mouth-watering hog roast to tempt visitors.

There will be festive entertainment throughout the day for all the family to enjoy, including carol singing and organisers are delighted to announce that there will be a giant snow globe for families to have their photos taken in, and it is expected that this will be a major attraction for children and families on the day.

If that was not enough, there will also be balloon modelling, face painting, gingerbread decorating and Santa & his Sleigh (provided by Hailsham Rotary Club) will be attending the event to hand out free presents to children, supplied by the Town Council with a donation from Tesco.

Christmas music will be playing on a PA system, courtesy of Hailsham FM.

Councillor Amanda O’Rawe, Deputy Town Mayor and Chairman of the Town Council’s Communities Committee said: “Saturday 3rd December will bring energy and atmosphere to the town and our main aim is to establish a lively – and inclusive – festive event that is community led and benefits the residents of Hailsham, whilst supporting local traders and increasing the footfall in the town during the festive period.”

“The Town Council works hard to make the necessary preparations and promotion of the town’s Christmas Market and is grateful to Hailsham Forward and all other project partners for their unflagging support each year.”

“Our programme this year includes festive entertainment and activities, as well as a wide range of stalls selling local quality produce and refreshments. So, if you’re looking for some alternative gift ideas while enjoying plenty of festive cheer, Hailsham’s Christmas Extravaganza is the place to go.”

Prior to the Christmas Market, a special Christmas lights switch-on event, which is always a highlight of the year in Hailsham, will take place in Vicarage Field on Friday 25th November.

Hailsham is gearing up for a spectacular show on Vicarage Field featuring festive entertainment in addition to the big switch-on, which will see the town centre transformed into a winter wonderland of twinkling Christmas lights.

Acclaimed photographer Anthony Penrose will press the button to turn on the town’s Christmas lights in Vicarage Field at 6pm, alongside the lucky winners of the Best Christmas Pizza Design competition (organised by Dominos Pizza in partnership with the Town Council) which will be announced before the switch-on.

Festive entertainment will include a performance from the Peter Willson Choir at 5pm, and carol singing from students of Hailsham Community College and Grovelands Community Primary School will be provided at 5.30pm, leading up to the Christmas lights switch-on at 6pm.

There will also be a candy floss stall (provided by Hailsham Lions) and a tombola. Santa & his Sleigh (courtesy of Hailsham Rotary Club) will be handing out free sweets to children and Hailsham FM will be playing Christmas music throughout the event.

Hailsham Parish Church will be hosting their Open Church from 6.30pm to 7.30pm at which free coffee, tea and hot chocolate will be served.
