Christmas Message from the Mayor of Hailsham

Council News & Services, Mayor's Press Releases

Mayor Nigel Coltman 2016

“First of all, I wish all the residents of Hailsham a peaceful and happy Christmas. Similarly, I send every best wish for Christmas to the Hailsham people living and working elsewhere or overseas who will spend the holidays away from home this year.

Another year has almost passed and in 2016, your Town Council has been extremely busy making improvements to its services within the local community.

Furthermore, by way of the Hailsham Neighbourhood Development Plan with which we are making steady progress on, we will continue to do everything in our power to help make sure long-term infrastructure improvements are put in place to support future housing development and help attract future investment in our town.

Since being re-elected as Town Mayor last May, I have been overwhelmed by the warm welcome received from the people of Hailsham at various community events and civic engagements and feel extremely honoured to represent you as Mayor.

As Mayor, I have had the pleasure of visiting Hailsham’s many community groups and voluntary organisations, many of which the Town Council has awarded grants to in order to be able to introduce new or improved facilities, activities or projects for the benefit of the town.

Such groups and the volunteers who run them, are the lifeblood of Hailsham and it is these particular individuals who contribute greatly to making our town a place where people can be proud to live, learn and work. All in all, the honour of being Town Mayor has provided me with an opportunity which few get – to see the very best in our people.

We all know Hailsham is a lively community we have had a packed programme of festive events in recent weeks including choral and brass band concerts, carolling by local school pupils, our grand Christmas lights switch-on event and of course the Hailsham Christmas Market Extravaganza which was organised by your Town Council and project partner Hailsham Forward. Christmas time in Hailsham is always a very special time of year!

Now that winter is truly upon us, please check on your elderly or vulnerable neighbours, friends and relatives to make sure that they are healthy, safe, warm and not alone this Christmas. Also, please remember to thank and keep our armed forces in your prayers for their sacrifices and service to our country.

On behalf of Hailsham Town Council members and employees, my wife the Mayoress Sandra and I wish you all a very merry Christmas and peace and happiness in the New Year.”
