A special Children’s Market event organised by Hailsham Town Council in partnership with Hailsham Forward has been hailed a success by organisers, with hundreds of shoppers attending.

Vicarage Field was home to a number of market stalls on Saturday [25 June], with items of interest to children such as toys, crafts and confectionery, as well as the usual Saturday stalls selling a range of locally sourced food, gifts and accessories. There was also a candy floss and popcorn stall to tempt visitors and Bella Pizza kindly set up pitch at the market for children to design their own pizza.

Various activities took place on the day for children including face painting and balloon modelling throughout the afternoon, as well as a special appearance from Elsie The Dalek.

Pupils from Grovelands and Park Mead Community Primary Schools, Hellingly Primary School and White House and Marshlands Academies provided stalls with games and activities for children including a tombola, raising over £100 for the schools.

Hailsham Festival FM played music and broadcast the event live.

Deputy Town Mayor and chairman of the Town Council’s Communities Committee Councillor Amanda O’Rawe said: “The Hailsham Children’s Market saw the town centre packed once more and I’m delighted the events organised by the Town Council and its partners are always well attended, popular and appeal to people of all ages.”

“The secret to a successful market is getting good level quality produce and a broad range of traders, which is what we have already achieved with our regular Hailsham Street Market and with our Christmas, Children’s and Summer themed events.”

“I would like to thank everyone who has helped with organising the event and for contributing to its success.”

Communities Committee vice-chairman Councillor Chriss Triandafyllou commented: “The market offered shoppers an excellent shopping experience with plenty of quality goods on offer and activities for the children.”

“Feedback from stallholders and others involved in the event was generally positive, which is excellent news all round.”

The Town Council is organising its next community event in partnership with Hailsham Forward, the Hailsham Summer Food & Drink Market, which will take place in the town centre on Saturday 30 July. Italia in Piazza will join other food and drink traders selling cheeses, meats, pastries, fruit, vegetables and speciality foods on the day.

Full details of the Summer Food & Drink Market, including times, scheduled entertainment acts and activities organised will be announced in the near future.
