Square Youth Cafe Raising Funds For Uganda Project

Around £450 was raised for a worthy cause at a charity quiz night and raffle held in Hailsham yesterday evening [25 February], with over 60 people and 12 teams attending the event at Chapter 12 in the High Street.

Quiz host for the evening Andy Willard tested quiz goers’ brains with rounds including food and drink, geography, history, science, art and literature at an event raising money for the Square Youth Café’s community development project trip to Kabubbu in Uganda later this year.

Raffle prizes included cinema tickets (Hailsham Pavilion), meal vouchers (Royal Indian, Subway, Callender’s Restaurant), beauty spa hamper, a two-months-free gym voucher from GL Fitness and a family ticket at Knockhatch Adventure Park, plus many more prizes kindly donated by local businesses.

12 young people and youth work volunteers from the Town Council’s Square Youth Café will fly out to the isolated village of Kabubbu on 21st October 2016 to get involved in a building project, agricultural development and helping families within the community.

“The trip will be a life-changing volunteer experience for all involved,” said Youth Project Coordinator and quiz co-host Andy Joyes, who was delighted at the outcome of the fundraising event. “We raised a lot of money and had fun at the quiz night and it’s very rewarding to have the local community come together for a great social evening whilst supporting an excellent cause.”

“I’m very grateful to the people who took part and those who made donations on the night. Thanks must also go to the numerous donors of raffle prizes, all of which helped to make the evening such a success.”
