Wealden Community Chef and Masterchef 2006 winner Peter Bayless will be at the Hailsham Farmers’ Market in Market Street on Saturday [11 June], to inspire local shoppers with some tasty recipes and making the best use of seasonal local market produce.
Cookery demonstrations will take between 9.30am and 12pm/noon and there will be plenty of opportunities to taste some of the delicious recipes Peter Bayless prepares.
Local author Andrea Keer will also be attending the Farmers’ Market and signing copies of her children’s book Wellington the Gardening Dog, which you can buy at a special price on the day.
At the market, ‘grow your own’ fruit and vegetables will be on sale and there will be stalls selling local produce including pies, meats, sausages and cheeses with chutney to accompany them, as well as honey, handmade beeswax candles, cards and gifts.
This Saturday’s Farmers’ Market coincides with the Hailsham Street Market, which takes place in Vicarage Field from 8.30pm to 3pm.
Items on sale at the Hailsham Street Market include fresh fruit, vegetables and meat, pies and pasties, gifts, crafts and jewellery, cards, cakes, clothing, plants and flowers, shabby chic, beauty products and preserves.
Deputy Town Clerk and Business Enterprise Manager Mickey Caira said: “This Saturday will be the first occasion that the farmers’ market and street market are taking place on the same day, since the street market recently changed it trading schedule in favour of operating every Saturday as opposed to three Saturdays of the month.”
“This Saturday sees both markets running together and this is your chance to support local producers and craftspeople who provide high quality, locally sourced goods.”
Deputy Town Mayor Councillor Amanda O’Rawe encourages people to go along to both markets on Saturday. She said: “Both the Farmers’ Market and Street Market are ideal in terms of showcasing the diverse range of locally sourced food and other products available in Hailsham and I hope people come down to Market Street and Vicarage Field to attend both markets and support independent trade.”
