Award bid for mum turned teacher
A mother of three is in the running for a national award after following her dream of becoming a teacher — with the help of courses at her local library.
Hailsham is twinned with Gournay-en-Bray, a small town in Normandy, France. Twinning has been in existence for many years and the idea of it is to foster better relations and gain knowledge and understanding of different cultures.
The Twinning Charter between Hailsham and Gournay-en-Bray was originally signed in Hailsham in October 2000 and in Gournay-en-Bray in February 2001, but officially renewed in October 2010 and February 2011 respectively.
Whilst the population of the two towns differs considerably (Hailsham c.20,500; Gournay-en-Bray c.5,000), the features and facilities of both towns are quite similar. Cultural and host family visits in both directions take place each year.
If you are interested in becoming a member of the Hailsham & District Twinning Association or would like more information, please telephone John Puttick (Membership Secretary – 01323 441787) or Pauline Townsend (Secretary – 01323 846539).
