Population

The published Electoral Roll for 2011 shows a population of approximately 20,436 (estimated to be 22,000+ by 2017. Updated figures – taking into account the increased population due to new housing developments – will be available here soon.

Parish rate/Town Council Precept

The Parish rate represents the proportional part of the Council Tax (collected by the District Council) and is paid to and funds the Town Council’s responsibilities. This amounts to £163.23 for Band D, in the year 2023-2023.

Based on the above Parish rate, the Town Council precept (the total quantity of money the council will take from the council tax payer to run the services provided by the town council) for the financial year 1st April 2022 to 31st March 2023 is £1,252,856 (requested of Wealden District Council), with a budget of £1,254,440.

As ratified at the meeting of Full Council on 25th January 2023, the Town Council precept for the forthcoming financial year (1st April 2023 to 31st March 2024) will be £1,281,505 (requested of Wealden District Council), with a budget of £1.281,529. The Council tax for a Band D property will stand at £166.65.
