Where services are not being provided on a commercial basis, Hailsham Town Council has powers to secure and subsidise them through contracts with bus operators. The Council currently subsidises Cuckmere Community Bus Ltd (a registered charity) which serves the Cuckmere Valley.

SENIOR CITIZENS' RAILCARD
Residents of Hailsham who are of retirement age are entitled to claim a subsidy against their Senior Rail Card. Subsidy payments for valid Senior Railcards are capped to a maximum of £15 per person per annum (or actual cost if lower than £15). All you need to do is pay for your card at Polegate or Eastbourne Train Station and then bring it to the Town Council offices, Inglenook, Market Street, and we will issue you with a part-refund. The Rail Card can be used as far away as Scotland and allows you a third off your train fare, if you are prepared to travel after 9am.
