Hailsham Lions will be exciting crowds once again this summer with their next Family Fun Day, thanks partly to a special grant from Hailsham Town Council.

Members agreed in March to award a grant of £1,000 which will part-fund the event, based on recommendations made by the Town Council’s Communities Committee to offer support. The funding will go towards the hire of a sensory tent, mobility-friendly hand-peddled bikes and disabled portable toilets, as well as covering the cost of attendance by St John Ambulance personnel on the day.

The event is Hailsham Lions’ largest fundraiser of the year which this summer also celebrates the 100th birthday of the Lions worldwide.

The Family Fun Day, which takes place on the Western Road Recreation Ground on Sunday 23rd July from 11am-4pm will be supported by Hailsham Active (formerly Hailsham & District Sports Alliance) to promote healthy living and a range of activities and sports demonstrations.

Also featuring at the event is Maria Williams’ Fun Dog Show, plus a number of attractions including a small funfair, BBQ and refreshments, live music courtesy of Hailsham FM.

“We are pleased to provide Hailsham Lions with a grant towards their fundraising community event this summer,” said Councillor Amanda O’Rawe, Deputy Town Mayor and chairman of the Town Council’s Communities Committee. “The Family Fun Day is already an established date in the Hailsham events calendar and I hope that Hailsham Lions get all the support necessary from the public in order to bolster their fundraising work for such good causes.”

“I’m proud of Hailsham Lions’ history as an association and its service to the local community. It is their continued effort and willingness to rise to new challenges that has kept them at the core of the local voluntary community for over 40 years.”

“The Family Fun Day is set to be a great day out for everyone and the organisers are hoping to attract lots of people and plenty of sunshine – we hope to see you there!”

Hailsham Lions’ president Geraldine Gurr said: “Hailsham Lions thank the Town Council for its support. We’re working in partnership with Hailsham Active this year and are hoping for good weather and support from the community on the day.”

Entrance to the Family Fun Day is free to members of the public, although stallholders/activity providers will be required to make a donation of £10 and charities £5, to be paid in advance. For further details contact info@hailshamlions.co.uk or phone 0845 833 9828 (local).

Full publicity about the Family Fun Day via the local press and social media will be ongoing.
