Hailsham businesses are invited to attend a ‘drop-in’ session to discuss the ongoing road and transport improvement works in the town centre.

The session, hosted by Hailsham & District Chamber of Commerce and supported by Hailsham Forward, will allow local businesses to discuss the roadworks on an informal basis and will take place at Chapter 12 Wine Bar (12 High Street) on Tuesday 6th September from 5.30pm to 7pm.

Chamber of Commerce Committee members will be present to chat and share comments with, along with the liaison officer for the roadworks project contractor.

Feedback from businesses has been varied and, although many town centre shops have experienced little or no effect in terms of footfall and takings generated since the transport improvements project began in July, for some, the impact of the roadworks has been more considerable than expected.

Town and district councillor Nick Collinson, who is also chairman of the Hailsham Forward Executive and sits on the Chamber of Commerce’s Town Centre Committee, welcomed the news of the drop-in session.

Councillor Colllinson said: “This is a great opportunity for town centre businesses to share their experiences so far and raise any concerns they may have over the current roadworks taking place in the High Street, George Street and North Street.”

“I do believe it is important that the agencies involved in this scheme understand the impact the works may be having on some of the town centre businesses and that they do whatever they can to minimise that impact. I hope this drop-in session helps that to happen.”

“What is really important now is that the message that Hailsham is open for business throughout the works gets out there, and I’m hoping that businesses will be able to work together with ideas to ensure this message is reinforced.”

While some disruption to Hailsham town centre is anticipated through the duration of the roadworks, access to shops however, is being maintained and noise and dust kept to a minimum.
