Christmas in Hailsham is set to be more exciting than ever with a fantastic line up of events starting with the Christmas Lights Switch-on on Friday 24th November, complete with carols and festive refreshments.

Festive entertainment will include carol singing from students of Hailsham Community College and Grovelands Community Primary School from 4.30pm, leading up to the Christmas lights switch-on at 6pm.

The lucky winners of the Best Christmas Pizza Design competition (organised by Domino’s Pizza in partnership with Hailsham Town Council) which will be announced before the switch-on, will press the button to turn on the town’s Christmas lights.

If that was not enough, there will also be a candy floss stall (provided by Hailsham Lions) and Santa & his Sleigh (courtesy of Hailsham Rotary Club) will be handing out free sweets to children.

Hailsham FM will be playing Christmas music throughout the event and Hailsham Parish Church will be hosting an Open Church from 6.15pm to 7pm at which there will be background music and free hot drinks including hot chocolate will be served.

Councillor Amanda O’Rawe, Deputy Town Mayor and Chairman of the Town Council’s Communities Committee said: “Christmas in Hailsham is a special experience and with the switching on of the Christmas lights just days away and the Christmas Extravaganza taking place next month, the town is very much ‘Open for Christmas’.”

“Everyone loves the festive atmosphere of a Christmas Market and turning on the town’s Christmas lights; the events we have planned for Hailsham promise to be a real treat for residents and visitors.”

Hailsham’s town centre seasonal lights display, funded and managed by the Town Council, has received sponsorship towards overall costs this year and the Town Council would like to take the opportunity to thanks all sponsors for their financial support.

Sponsors for the 2017 Christmas lights scheme include St Mary’s Walk owners Lyrit Ltd and Hailsham & District Chamber of Commerce.

“We are extremely grateful for the generosity and support of local businesses,” said Deputy Town Clerk & Business Enterprise Manager Mickey Caira. “Therefore, we’d like to publicly thank and congratulate those public-spirited businesses based in Hailsham which have seized the opportunity to help us ensure our town centre remains a prosperous and exciting place to visit during the festive period.”
