South & Southeast In Bloom: How You Can Help!

So, how can you help with Hailsham’s entry into the 2009 competition? Please do not be deterred by the fact that you may not have too much time to spare; there are a number ways you can contribute to this worthy project. Here are some suggestions:

With friends and neighbours, effectively maintain an area near your home or nearby common land by removing litter and extracting weeds (even planting an extra flower or two!)
Show off your horticultural handiwork by entering our Front Garden Competition! Feel free to send any photographs to the Hailsham Town Council Offices, or for further information regarding this opportunity, call us on 01323 841702.
Keep the area in front of your house or business premises free from litter and remove any unwanted (and unsightly) weeds from the pavements outside your house.
Report graffiti to Hailsham Town Council immediately on 01323 841702.
Organise a competition within your locality (perhaps, with a theme?) to improve the general appearance of the road and its gardens!
Arrange a poster design competition. Primary or secondary school pupils could create a poster to encourage community involvement in the project - and advertise the Hailsham South & South East In Bloom competition!
Make a financial contribution to Hailsham South & South East In Bloom; any amount is welcome…

COMMERCIAL ORGANISATIONS

Why not install hanging baskets or window boxes outside your premises?
Remember, you can sponsor community displays outside or near your workplace.
There are special competitions for shops, factories, offices and public houses - why not try something new and exciting for the local community and enter!

LOCAL SCHOOLS

Encourage children to take an interest in local environment issues.
Involve your school in tree and bulb planting, environmental care and keeping school grounds and its surrounding areas free of litter.
Enter the South & Southeast in Bloom for the best contribution made by a school!

PRIVATE PROPERTY & RESIDENTIAL

Make a special effort to present your garden, balcony or displays to their very best.
Enter the Hailsham South & Southeast in Bloom competition.
Prizes will be awarded for the best front garden, best hanging basket/container, best sustainable garden, best wildlife garden and more!

Please remember that we would welcome any photos you might have and relevant information that details the degree of community involvement in certain activities or improvements…

This is an award the council wants all members of the community to be involved with, whether you are an individual or part of a community group, school, or business.

If you have any suggestions or wish to offer your assistance, please contact Terry Hall, Public Information Officer, on 01323 841702 (during office hours) to get the ball rolling.
